Hôtel & Spa L'Alta Peyra
Saint Véran, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

« Recharge your batteries in a natural setting perched on high »

Description of the establishment

Saint Véran is a magnet for superlatives. The highest hamlet in Europe and one of France’s most beautiful villages is a natural vantage point overlooking a land of legends, the Queyras Nature Reserve. The Alta Peyra rises up even higher, a unique hotel consisting of five chalets right at the foot of the ski slopes. The rooms and public areas open onto fairytale landscapes. The minimalist design and soft colours keep to a natural register in order to promote true relaxation of the mind. There is a spa with a sauna, hammam and heated indoor/outdoor pool for all kinds of fitness activities.

Hôtel & Spa L'Alta Peyra
A Good Quality Experience in a Stunning Setting
4.5
A very good hotel overall in a spectacular setting. Attention to detail in the styling and décor is excellent, providing a contemporary, boutique-hotel experience. Although our room was smaller than anticipated, and the bathroom only big enough to accommodate one person at a time, it was all well laid out and very comfortable; the toiletries were of very good quality, bathrobes excellent, and we loved the daily bottles of water and chocolates left each evening when the bed was turned down and lights switched on during dinner. Most staff spoke some English, and all were courteous and keen to make our stay as good as possible. The view from the balcony was stunning. It would have been good if the rule about no children under 13 years allowed in the Jacuzzi had been enforced - several times during our 7 night stay we were unable to use this facility as it was being used by young children, who were also splashing and shouting in the pool, making swimming for adults almost impossible. We were also disappointed one afternoon to have waited over 20 minutes to be served in the upstairs bar/terrace following a long walk, that we left without our drink, even though the barman had seen we were waiting and had only 2 other tables to attend to at the time. It would also have been good customer relations to have been offered a complimentary drink after we were unfortunately locked on our balcony one morning by the cleaner who had closed the door whilst vacuuming the floor and forgotten to open it before leaving the room. We finally managed to alert a member of the kitchen staff who was collecting a delivery, who came to open the doors for us, and the reception staff were extremely apologetic about the incident. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good quality environment in a stunning setting - we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the restaurants in the lovely village of St Veran, the marmots scuttling around the rocks within a 10 minute walk of the hotel and the magnificent eagle spotted on a trek along the river bank.

We really had a great time and where impressed by the staff who was so nice (and we are used to travel so we can compare). The only reason why I said it wasn't a charming place is because the decoration of the restaurants and bar is rather cold. It needs more woods, textiles... Also there wasn't anything to drink at the bar at the reception level. But apart from that it was better than I expected. The food for the children was amazing, I would even say better than the adults' ;-)
