Château de Lalande
Nice and charming hotel for a family trip
4.5
It is a very nice charming chateaux hotel. They decoration might not be that extremely luxury like few chateaux hotels we have been but we like the feeling of relaxing. The dinner menu and the quality of food is supurb and it value for your money. Also, it is located in a little town near Perigueax which allow you to travel around the area easily.

Lovely chateau in a quiet countryside setting. Recently refurbished, lovely decorated room (nr 2). Warm welcome by the hostess, who spoke excellent English and helped with sightseeing planning. First class cuisine. Unfortunately a slow internet connection.

Extremely good hotel - a fantastic restaurant menu, professional and friendly service, including a very flexible childrens menu - they got to try the adult "amuse bouche" between fussy child friendly courses.

Great hotel, waiter service and menu needs imroving
3.8
Great hotel. Clean and very comfy. We had trouble finding reception as it is not clear where it is and stood around waiting for 10 minutes to check in as staff seem to have many jobs i.e. the receptionist is also a waiter, room service waiter and travel consultant. There was no one to greet us? The cleanliness of the hotel was superb! The best I have seen in a long time. Toiletries could be improved although the soap was luxurious; the shower gels are small and cheap smelling. Fridge and mini bar would have been good in the room, along with a refreshment centre. There are a lot of posts about the menu being a bit exclusive as it offers, duck, duck, duck, fish and foie gras and nothing for vegetarians and I do agree. I appreciate that the chateau is in the region of duck and foie gras but I think the hotel is missing out on additional revenue by not offering alternative choices. Again, typical in France, there is more to the wine world than just French wine. It is 2015 and people want choice and other more superior wines from Australia and New Zealand. Dinner is served from 19.30-20.45 and that is it. Oh, and order your dessert at time of ordering the whole 3 course and you cannot order a dessert after your main meal as the "chef has to get it all ready"? So they want the order in full at the time of ordering food. It would also be good if they offered in room dining. Service in the restaurant is SLOW! It appeared to me that waiters were not fully trained to look after a table or zone of their responsibility and instead would leave the kitchen with food, look at bits of paper on a table where orders had been written down, mark off with a highlighter pen who had received what and check which table the food from the kitchen was meant to be for. A waiter's skill is to know this and remember discreetly. Not have a group of staff hovering over a table with food orders discussing who was next for what and who had or had not marked off what had been delivered to tables. So, cleaning staff and the dutch receptionist and Catherine were marvellous. The interior is of high quality. The fabrics are lovely. The pool is fine. The service just needs to be quicker and someone needs to see if guests want refreshments rather than relying on guests to visit reception and ask for a poolside drink. Reception should be manned at all times! I was asked what time I would arrive and arrived on time but no one to greet me? A big NO NO in the hotel world. My recommendation: Train the waiting staff to be more proactive. Allow more dishes on the menu. I can understand the dining time zone as it gives the hotel restaurant an atmosphere. Would I return, yes. Would I dine there, no.

Beautiful hotel. very friendly staff, great food. Peaceful location. Not much to eat available during the day but plentiful breakfast and great dinners. make sure you book for dinner. They couldn't fit us in one night but went to great effort to get us a reservation in town at a very good restaurant! As a young childless married couple, there were a few too many kids around for total relaxation but they were all well behaved so wast too much bother. But be warned if you want an adults only vacation. We had a lovely time and the owners were extremely nice and helpful. Would highly recommend, we would definitely go back.
