« Walk to the Wine Museum from this 11th century Order of Poor Ladies convent»

Description of the establishment

This superbly developed hotel used to be a convent and the charm of the original architecture has been successfully preserved. Located in the very heart of the medieval town of Kientzheim, this is an ideal base for discovering a wine-producing area, cradle of the famous pinot gris d'Alsace. Carefully designed by the owner, the smart rooms ensure calm and comfortable nights. The garden, shaded by the vines, and a sauna adjoining the fitness room, guarantee relaxation. Excellent advice provided concerning tourist highlights and the activities that await guests out and about.

We very much enjoyed our stay and would like to come again. Just a few comments how things could be improved. We wanted on Saturday to eat something in the Restaurants in Kientzheim but we found that everything was "complet". Please consider to offer some small snacks ( e.g. sandwiches) at the bar in the evening. Kaysersberg is not far away but it seems that there is a limited taxi service. And the bus service is no longer running in the evening. Why not offer a limited shuttle service there in the evenings and back so that guests can go there and do not need to drive, after all Alsace wine is good !

This was our third trip to the Abbaye d'Alspach and will hopefully not be our last. Every time we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is strategically located in Kientzheim which is one of the most charming villages along the Alsace Wine Route. This is the village to go to if you want quiet but easy access to the wonderful Grand Cru vineyards, the tasting room of Paul Blanck & Sons which offers perhaps the best Alsatian Grand Cru wines , and the outstanding restaurant Cote Vigne. The hotel is nestled in the village, there is free parking, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet, the breakfast buffet is wonderful, and you can enjoy sitting in a cosy bar and having either an afternoon expresso or glass of wine. The staff is friendly, helpful and very professional. We enjoy walking-hiking along the various vineyard routes to Riquewihr and to Kayersberg. The views are tremendous and there are options for easy or more strenuous walks or hikes. You can also arrange for bike rentals and cycle along the vineyard routes. This location is perhaps the best in all of the Alsace Wine region and the Abbaye is a real find.

Das liebevoll in die alten Mauern integrierte Hotel vermittelt Entspannung - gleichzeitig wird Neugier geweckt, die Annehmlichkeiten des Hauses kennenzulernen. Wir wurden nicht enttäuscht.

After a 640-kilometre journey from Zeebrugge we were greeted with charm and efficiency. Kientzheim is a delightful place and Hotel de l'Abbaye an historically attractive, while thoroughly modern hotel in its furnishing and general presentation. We could easily have enjoyed a longer stay had circumstances allowed. If ever we need a stop-over in the same area, or a longer stay in Alsace, this hotel Will certainly be on our itinerary.

The staff were so welcoming, informative about any questions asked about the local area. We had a fabulous stay taking my mother to the Patchwork exhibition to Saint Marie aux Mines, the suite we had could not have been better to relax in the evening and recharge ready for the next day. It was excellently situated in the town and had interests around.

This is an authentic place to say in the beautiful part of Alsace. It is centrally located so that the adjoining vineyards and little wine towns can be explored in detail. Additionally, it has almost a direct link to A35 that puts the are in the mainstream of travel within the Rhine Valley, so it is ideal for exploration for both France and Germany.
